National Science Foundation Grant for Clarkson University
Elise announced that Clarkson University will receive a $100,000 National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Grant. This project will include collaboration between scientists in the United States and abroad to further our research pursuits and expand opportunities for North Country students.
Education Relief for Families
Elise led the effort urging House leadership to relieve North Country families from burdensome federal education mandates so families did not face additional challenges while teaching their children during the pandemic.
Higher Education Funding
Elise secured over $26 million in emergency funding for NY-21 colleges and universities. COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges for faculty, staff, administrators and students at our colleges and universities, and Elise proudly supports funding for higher education to ensure that our schools have the resources that they need.
Student Loan Relief
Elise introduced bipartisan legislation that would provide temporary relief for Perkins loan borrowers. COVID-19 has caused financial hardship for families throughout the North Country, and this legislation will give those with Perkins student loan payments some peace of mind during this difficult time.
Student Loan Relief
I worked to provide loan relief by allowing for 2020 graduates to defer their student loans for up to three years. Our graduating students were hit hard by COVID-19, and I fought to ensure they will have the flexibility they need to navigate this tough time.
Holocaust Education and Remembrance
I wrote and worked to pass bipartisan legislation that would provide teachers throughout the country with the resources and training they need to teach our children the important lessons of the Holocaust. I’m proud that this important bill was signed into law by President Trump.
Healthy Meals for Students
COVID-19 brought to light a clear need to provide better access to meals for students in rural areas, including throughout summer break and school vacations, which is why I worked with my colleagues in the House to create a 3-year pilot program that will deliver healthy meals to kids during summer and school breaks.
Strengthening Aid for Military Students
With bipartisan support, we were able to strengthen Impact Aid, important North Country school funding for our military families in the Fort Drum community.
Putting Control of Education Back in Local Hands
I’m proud of my work on the Every Student Succeeds Act that provided the first update to No Child Left Behind in the last decade and will give power back to state and local governments and strengthen our education system by rolling back Common Core.
Working to Secure Our Schools
