NEW YORK — Northern New York Congresswoman Rep. Elise Stefanik has been named to the 2024 Time100 list of most influential people in the world.
Stefanik, who represents New York’s 21st Congressional District, was named to this year’s list along with political leaders including California Governor Gavin Newsom, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and columnist E. Jean Carroll, among others.
Time said Stefanik made this year’s list due to her ranking as the most powerful woman in the House GOP as well as for her close relationship with former President Donald Trump, particularly after rumors have swirled for months that she could be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
Time’s Charlotte Alter wrote that Stefanik “has become a leading force in the conservative push to investigate DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and antisemitism on college campuses” which led to the resignation of the University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill and “kick-started a pressure campaign that resulted in the resignation of the president of Harvard University, her alma mater.”
