A major federal investment is coming to New York’s North Country as Rep. Elise Stefanik announced a $47.7 million contract to modernize the Land Port of Entry at Rouses Point.

The funding, awarded by the General Services Administration (GSA), will go to Murnane Building Contractors, Inc., a New York-based company. The project aims to upgrade border infrastructure while creating jobs in the region.

“This investment will enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s ability to conduct inspections of rail, vehicle, and pedestrian traffic,” Stefanik said. “It also creates many jobs for the region.”

The new facility will replace an outdated crossing just south of the U.S.-Canada border. Officials say the site is especially important because it’s the only location in the country where rail, pedestrian, and vehicle inspections all take place in one place.

Stefanik, who serves in House Republican leadership, has made Northern Border security a key part of her agenda. She credited the project as a win for both safety and economic growth in the region.

No timeline for construction was included in the announcement.
