Congresswoman Elise Stefanik made a visit to the Champlain Port of Entry and Border Patrol facility on Wednesday to get a first-hand perspective on the situation at the northern border.

The congresswoman met with officials such as Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia and Acting Area Port Director Todd Bulson. They discussed topics such as the number of illegal border crossings at the northern border and the staffing shortage impacting U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s efficiency.

Stefanik said that she believes Border Patrol agents are in “desperate need” of more resources and support, and she will continue to fight for tighter border security.

Congresswoman Stefanik has long been a proponent of heightened border security through measures such as the Secure the Border Act, which she voted to pass last May. If enacted, the bill would have increased Border Patrol resources, resumed construction on the border wall, and modified the process for seeking asylum.
