U.S. Rep. Elise M. Stefanik, R-Willsboro, has launched her 2016 re-election campaign.

Ms. Stefanik announced the campaign Wednesday, citing a successful first year in office and consultation with community, business and political leaders.

“As 2016 begins, I’ve been humbled and energized by the tremendous support our campaign received from hundreds of donors from all across the 21st District this past year,” Stefanik said. “In the months ahead, I will continue listening to good ideas, regardless of party, and work to enact policies that will help grow our north country small businesses, strengthen our nation’s military and care for our veterans, especially those stationed at Fort Drum, make it easier and more affordable to receive an education, and help protect our family farms for the next generation. I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the people in the north country, and to giving the 21st District a strong voice in Congress in 2016.”

The congresswoman will run on the Republican, Conservative and Independent ballots in the November election.

Ms. Stefanik also revealed she raised $236,000 in the fourth quarter of 2015, bringing her 2015 total to $1.3 million.

She said this was the highest off-year fundraising total in the history of the 21st District, and she will start her campaign with $1 million in cash on hand.

Her Democratic opponent, William “Mike” Derrick, Peru, had raised $140,906 in campaign contributions by the end of the third quarter.

The Federal Election Commission did not have fourth-quarter campaign finance data available.
