Upholding the Constitution

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Elise has proudly taken the oath of office to uphold the Constitution in her three terms to represent NY’s 21st Congressional District. She is a strong 2nd Amendment supporter, and Elise has earned an A-Rating by the NRA for her commitment to upholding the Constitution. She worked to pass the Concealed-Carry Reciprocity Act and the Fix NICS Act to protect the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens while keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals.

In 2019, Elise proudly helped pass the Intelligence Authorization Act (IAA), which will ensure that the Intelligence Community has the necessary resources, funding and authorities to protect and defend our country. In response to Elise’s questioning of then-FBI Director James Comey at a HPSCI hearing in 2017, the House included language from Elise’s Counterintelligence Accountability Act into the IAA. This legislation prevents the FBI from circumventing Congress and unilaterally conducting investigations without any congressional oversight by closing a loophole in the law.

Elise also defended the United States Constitution and asked important, tough questions during the House Intel Committee impeachment hearings. She has stood up for truth and transparency and called out House Democrats for abusing their power during the broken, partisan impeachment process in the House.

Elise will continue to be a strong supporter of our Constitutional liberties and will work every day to protect the rights and freedoms of New Yorkers.
