Jobs & the Economy

Elise was born and raised in an Upstate small business family and understands the hard work, long days and determination it takes for Main Street small businesses to be successful in Upstate New York.

She also understands how federal and state regulations and mandates can stifle economic growth and job creation. Elise is working at the federal level to eliminate burdensome regulations and give our business community certainty so they can create jobs. Elise also continues to work to reform the tax code, both in Washington and Albany, to create a flatter, fairer system that promotes job creation and economic growth.

Elise proudly supported the USMCA trade agreement, which will expand our markets for American-made goods and bolster our entire North Country economy. This agreement is a significant win for Upstate New York farmers, small businesses, manufacturers and hardworking families, and Elise has worked hard to get it passed through Congress.

In the North Country, we know that Canada is more than just a bordering nation, they are our neighbors, friends, and our largest trading partner. In the 114th Congress, Elise lead the effort to pass the Promoting Travel, Commerce and National Security Act, paving the way for expansion of preclearance facilities, operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, at land, rail, marine and airports of departure in Canada. Signed into law by both the U.S. and Canadian governments, this legislation will increase commerce and border security between the two nations and spur economic growth and opportunity in our region.

Twenty-First Century jobs require cutting-edge skills, and Elise consistently works to develop solutions to the skills deficit that many employers face when looking for new employees. Elise is a strong advocate for Career and Technical Training and was proud to support passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act which will provide needed updates to the nation’s primary CTE program. She also introduced the HIRED Act which works to ensure that displaced workers are provided consultation and advice for starting a small business.

Now more than ever, Congress needs an Upstate voice that truly understands the unique needs of small businesses and will fight for hardworking families throughout the 21st Congressional District.

While in Congress, Elise has kept her promises to New York’s 21st District by taking the following actions:
