WASHINGTON, D.C. | U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik has joined nearly 40 other lawmakers in proposing a multi-faceted plan to better secure the nation’s borders.
The newly proposed Border Security for America Act of 2021 looks to prioritize American safety in response to the ongoing and record-breaking crisis at the United States’ southern border.
Supporters said the Border Security for America Act of 2021 would better secure the nation’s borders by resuming building the border wall, modernizing and enhancing technology at the border and bolstering support for federal law enforcement officers and border agents.
In announcing the measure locally Sept. 21, Stefanik criticized the current administration and border policies, calling it an endangerment to national security and “the worst border crisis our nation has seen in decades and our nation deserves better.”
Specifically, the Border Security for America Act of 2021 would:
-Require the Secretary of Homeland Security to resume construction on the border wall system immediately.
-Direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to deploy practical and effective technology to support CBP and Border Patrol operations.
-Require the CBP Commissioner to hire and train additional CBP officers and agents to maintain an active-duty presence at all U.S. ports of entry.
-Require increasing the number of officers for tunnel detection and remediation, agricultural specialists, K-9 units, and supporting officers.
