Saratoga: Today, the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) of the New York City Police Department endorsed Congresswoman Elise Stefanik for re-election. The Association represents over 13,000 active and retired law enforcement officers in New York. There are many retired NYPD officers who now reside in the North Country.

“We are grateful for Congresswoman Stefanik’s commitment to safeguarding the Constitutional rights of all citizens, preserving the rule of law, strengthening the security of our borders, and standing up for police officers in New York and across the nation,” said Ed Mullins, President. “This is a difficult and hazardous time for law enforcement. In Washington, D.C. and New York, elected officials are mounting efforts to ‘defund the police’ and casting police officers as villains. The anti-police sentiment emanating from Washington, Albany and New York City is fueling policy experiments like sanctuary cities, bail reform, and selective prosecution that have made our communities less safe. The rhetoric of irresponsible politicians is encouraging an unprecedented rise in assaults and ambush attacks against officers that has corresponded to a rising murder rate in New York City and elsewhere.

“Now more than ever, we need elected officials like you who are willing to stand against the anti-police and anarchist elements in New York and our nation’s capital. It is a matter of life and death for the brave men and women of law enforcement and the citizens we are sworn to protect and serve. Throughout your time in Congress, you have demonstrated a commitment to keeping our communities safe. Your opposition to ‘defunding the police’ and support for public safety is clear. It presents a stark contrast with your opponent.

“You have been a vocal advocate for sensible immigration policies. You have supported controlling the U.S. border, ending “sanctuary” policies that enable dangerous criminals to repeatedly victimize communities, and curtailing taxpayer dollars to sanctuary jurisdictions. You worked to keep our children safe by supporting increased funding for School Resource Officers. SBA members also appreciate your advocacy to reauthorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, your work to enhance the ‘Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,’ and your commitment to aiding disabled officers and the families of police killed in the line of duty. In short, for the past six years you have demonstrated in both word and deed your commitment to ‘Back the Blue.’

The SBA is proud to endorse your reelection. Thank you again for your strong leadership and unwavering support for law enforcement and the safety of the communities we serve,” concluded Mullins.

“It is a great honor to earn the endorsement of the NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association,” said Stefanik. “I have earned the support of every state and local law enforcement in my district and I am proud and grateful to earn this incredible endorsement from the SBA. I’m honored to represent many retired NYPD officers who now reside in my district. This endorsement reflects the unwavering support I have from law enforcement across our district and state, and my unwavering commitment to protecting their rights and safety, and ensuring the Far-Left, like my opponent, never succeeds in defunding the police. Our law enforcement officers are courageous, and worthy of our respect and praise for all they do to keep our communities safe. Thank you to the Sergeants Benevolent Association, City of New York for endorsing my re-election campaign — I will always Back the Blue!”
