PLATTSBURGH | U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik (R) has gained big support with an endorsement by the New York State Law Enforcement Officers Union Council 82.

The law-enforcement union represents more than 3,500 police officers, deputy sheriffs, county correction officers, emergency dispatchers and state correction lieutenants, and other public safety personnel from across the state, including 800 members who live and work in the 21st Congressional District, such as the Plattsburgh Police Officers Union.

“Our endorsement of you recognizes the great job you have done for the 21st District, this nation, your strong and unwavering support for law enforcement, for veterans and military families, and for the necessary funding to state and local governments seeking coronavirus aid and relief,” Council 82 President Ronald Walsh wrote in a letter of support.

After receiving news of the endorsement, Stefanik said she was “…proud to work in Congress on behalf of these brave American heroes.”

With law-enforcement reform, a key aspect of the 21st District race between Stefanik and challenger Tedra Cobb, Walsh said Council 82 stands behind Stefanik and her efforts to initiate change.

“This election is so important for law enforcement and for our families. Council 82 proudly supports your re-election to Congress, and we pledge to do so every step of the way.”
