While nations such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are working hard to develop a vaccine for COVID-19, the Russian government, through private hackers, has been trying to steal our medical researcher’s work. Thankfully, we were able to detect the Russian hackers because of the cybersecurity systems that Elise Stefanik has helped implement as the chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.
However, next time around, we might not be so fortunate. Hackers are continually adapting and improving methods, and in order to prevent a breach in our cybersecurity systems, we have to improve our systems. This necessity is why Elise Stefanik was a co-sponsor of the Defend COVID Research from Hackers Act. This act would help defend COVID-19 research from being accessed by hackers and hold those who attempt to steal COVID research accountable for their actions. It also allows for sanctions to be placed on foreign actors who attempt to damage the United States’ national security through hackers’ work. However, Elise has not stopped there. She has worked tirelessly to protect both the nation and the North Country from foreign cyberattacks through increased research in improving our cyber defense systems.
If we want to stay up to par with foreign hackers, protect our COVID-19 research and improve our national security, we must show our support to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik this November. Elise has provided real results for our cybersecurity; she has worked endlessly to ensure that Americans do not fall victim to cyberattacks and that the work that our amazing, hard-working medical professionals have accomplished maintains in the right hands.
